No reason to worry: The country has a sufficient reserve of food

The world is struggling against the coronavirus pandemic, which has become a disaster for the whole world, and, in particular, threatening our country. These hard days test us in all aspects. Yes, people are worried, thinking about tomorrow. Especially the sense of anxiety has intensified since the quarantine regime was announced. Issues of maintaining health, speedy elimination of infection, preserving the future have become urgent... And in the current situation, the demand for food products seems to have increased in the country.

In social networks, rumors are spreading about the increase in prices for certain products. This is incorrect information. They say that potato prices have been raised in markets and supermarkets. On this issue, deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis together with deputies of local councils of people’s deputies at places conducted a study in shopping centers and markets. This study continues today. If such negative cases are identified in relation to entrepreneurs and merchants who “take advantage” of difficult days for the country in the personal interests, appropriate measures are taken legally.

It should be noted that there is a sufficient reserve of food in the country, there is no reason to worry. In January-March, 692.8 thousand tons were delivered to the country by road, 4 million 870 thousand tons of food were delivered by rail, and this process continues. In particular, 23.03 thousand tons of potatoes, 12.54 thousand tons of flour, 11.5 thousand tons of vegetable oil, 26.6 thousand tons of sugar, 1.8 thousand tons of meat, 1.7 thousand tons of confectionery products, 1, 3 thousand tons of rice were imported. On March 16-31 this year, the foreign trade turnover amounted to 943.3 million USD. All this is done to provide our citizens with food.

Soon, young potatoes grown by our farmers will be delivered to the markets. There will be no shortage. And therefore, we ask compatriots not to panic over the issue of food products provision.

Together, we will overcome these challenges.

 Begali QODIROV,

Deputy of the Legislative

Chamber of the Oliy Majlis
