New economic opportunities in cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United States
On October 19, the President of Uzbekistan attended the opening of the second meeting of the American-Uzbek Business and Investment Council in Samarkand. Addressing the event, attended by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Special Envoy Sergio Gor, and representatives of leading American companies and banks, the Head of State outlined opportunities for expanding economic cooperation between the two countries.
Relations between Uzbekistan and the United States have reached a new level, with a strong political partnership creating broad opportunities for developing economic ties. Hundreds of companies with US investment are currently operating in Uzbekistan across various sectors, including industry, energy, transport, agriculture, education and technology.
The President identified several promising areas for cooperation, including advanced processing of critical minerals, developing a modern energy system, establishing data centers, introducing artificial intelligence and digital technologies, and expanding cooperation in workforce training.
Of particular significance is the fact that 54 agreements and promising initiatives worth a total of nearly $12 billion were developed as part of the meeting. A comprehensive action plan will be drawn up to implement them. Plans also call for simplifying business procedures by offering investors projects with ready-to-use infrastructure and the necessary permits already in place.
The President emphasized the need to transform the Council into a strategic mechanism for long-term economic partnership between the two countries and proposed developing a trade, investment and technology cooperation program through 2035. These initiatives will help attract new investment, adopt modern technologies, create jobs and strengthen Uzbekistan’s economic potential.
