By June 1, 2026, termite infestations were documented in 531 mahallas across 12 regions, impacting over 15,000 households, as well as cultural sites and cemeteries. Research in the Republic of Karakalpakstan revealed that some residents spent between 1.5 million UZS and 4 million UZS of their own money to fight termites, which are recognized as damaging pests. However, these efforts did not always produce effective results.

Mr. Mamutov, a member of the UzLiDeP faction, sent a parliamentary inquiry to the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Academy of Sciences, requesting detailed information on sector issues and the measures being taken.

The inquiry asked for a detailed explanation regarding the use of funds for termite control from 2024 to 2026, covering the 50 billion UZS allocated in 2025, the effectiveness of regional working groups, and specific planned measures to curb termite spread.
