UzLiDeP “Youth Wing” activists take a closer look at the work of the Senate

As is well known, our country gives attention at the state level to supporting young people in every respect and to helping them realise their potential.

To this end, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis also holds direct dialogues with young people, focusing on their education, their vocational training and, more broadly, on helping them find their place in society.

In turn, in order to intensify this work during the “Year of Support for Youth and Business”, senators held a meeting in the upper chamber of parliament with talented young members of the Executive Committee of the UzLiDeP Political Council and of the Department for Work with Youth and Business Structures of the UzLiDeP Tashkent City Council, as part of the “The Role of Youth in Parliament” project.

The discussion covered raising young people’s legal awareness and their social and political engagement, protecting their interests, enabling them to realise their intellectual potential in full, and the conditions being created for them to take a worthy place in society.

At the meeting, the young participants were given detailed information about how the Senate debates and adopts laws, how laws are enforced, how students’ theoretical knowledge of parliamentary work is being strengthened, and what is being done to bring education and practice together.

It was also emphasised what role the coming generation plays in lawmaking, and in particular how important their proposals on draft laws are. The need to strengthen a sense of involvement in the development of the homeland was noted.

The meeting noted that adopting timely legislation, ensuring the implementation of state programmes, exercising parliamentary oversight and increasing the accountability of executive bodies and officials to the people are priority areas of parliamentary work.

At the event, held in the form of an open dialogue, the young people put their questions to the senators and received detailed answers. They also took a close look at the work of the Senate’s committees and its secretariat.
