A working group of the UzLiDeP faction in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, led by faction leader Aktam Khaitov, studied the household farming practices of Turaqul Nusratov, a resident of house No.39 on Yoshlar Street in Mirishkor mahalla of Mirishkor district.

Approaching the age of eighty, the elder has long been a role model for many in his ability to work the land. In his household, no one remains idle. The family is engaged in both household farming and livestock breeding. The mahalla is home to 715 families with a population of 2,718. They are particularly unrivaled in garlic cultivation. From a 1,000 square meters of land plot, they harvest three times a year, earning 60-70 million UZS annually. First, they plant garlic, followed by potatoes, and finally corn. Garlic and corn are exported.

“We have long been troubled by the sewage problem”, says Mr. Nusratov. “Our lands are extremely saline, and to make matters worse, our groundwater is also unfit for drinking. However, it can be used for irrigating crops. Our people are very hardworking. From early spring to the dead of winter, they never leave their household plots unattended. Channels are being installed. God willing, sewage services will also be provided soon. Most households keep livestock, which is why dairy products and meat are much cheaper in our village compared to other places.

The chairwoman of the mahalla citizens’ assembly, Hilola Akhmedova, is always among the people. She tirelessly works to promote entrepreneurship, improve employment, and enhance the well-being of the population in our mahalla. Due to the small population size, however, we have been unable to secure funds through the open budget system. The roads in the villages within the mahalla have become completely unusable. If only our deputies could help us in this regard, it would be a great blessing”.

The issues raised have been taken under parliamentary oversight, and measures will be taken to resolve them.
