At the meeting of the UzLiDeP faction in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, the importance of the video conference held under the chairmanship of the President on priority tasks for improving the quality of services in primary and specialized medical institutions, regulating medicine consumption, and enhancing medical education was discussed.

It was noted that in recent years, extensive reforms have been carried out in the healthcare sector aimed at fundamentally improving the quality of medical services provided to the population, organizing the activities of medical institutions based on advanced international experience, and strengthening the capacity of medical personnel.

In particular, over the past seven years, funding allocated to the healthcare sector has increased sixfold, and hospitals in the regions have been modernized in terms of material and technical resources. Most importantly, to bring services closer to the population and ensure public satisfaction with the system, a mechanism has been introduced linking primary healthcare at the mahalla level with specialized medical services.

Faction members highlighted the reforms carried out in the healthcare system in recent years under the leadership of the President, the changes taking place in the sector. They paid special attention to the priority tasks set by the Head of State.

It was noted that the essential initiatives put forward during the video conference are in harmony with the programmatic objectives of UzLiDeP, and that faction members will actively participate in ensuring their timely and effective implementation as well as in improving sector-related legislation. In addition, based on the tasks set by the Head of State, the priority objectives facing the party and its parliamentary faction were identified.

At the meeting, the draft law “On introducing amendments and addenda to the Customs Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan” was also at the center of discussions.

It was noted that in recent years, to facilitate and encourage entrepreneurial activity in Uzbekistan, several procedures in this area have been critically reviewed, and outdated bureaucratic obstacles and barriers that no longer meet modern requirements have been eliminated.

As a result of the measures taken, the business environment in the country has improved, creating broad opportunities for business entities and private investors. At the same time, there is a need to further liberalize foreign trade by harmonizing legislation with international standards, including the provisions of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade of the World Trade Organization.

This draft law provides for the abolition of the current practice of applying double import duties on goods produced in countries not granted most-favored-nation status (currently, 57 countries enjoy MFN treatment) or on goods of unidentified origin.

The adoption of this draft law will ensure that national legislation is aligned with international standards, including the creation of conditions for fair competition in the economy and the broader attraction of foreign investment.

Faction members, noting the necessity and significance of the draft law today, emphasized that it had been refined based on deputies’ proposals during the preparation for the second reading, and therefore approved it.

Other draft laws included on the agenda were also thoroughly reviewed at the meeting and supported by the deputies.
