Air pollution is becoming an increasingly pressing issue for the people of Uzbekistan. In the fall, when the heating season approaches, thermal power plants begin to operate actively, and in the summer, the problem is aggravated by the arrival of dust storms that occasionally cover the capital.

Air quality is a global concern, monitored in over 6,000 cities across 117 countries. Shockingly, 99 percent of the world’s population breathes polluted air that exceeds the acceptable quality standards set by the WHO, posing a threat to their health.

Air pollution is the cause of many deaths worldwide. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 13 million people die every year from preventable environmental causes. PM 2.5 particles (small air particles ranging in size from 0.001 to 2.5 micrometers) can penetrate the human body through the lungs and bloodstream, causing cardiovascular and respiratory diseases.

According to statistics, six percent of non-accidental deaths in Uzbekistan are caused by polluted air. Air pollution affects food security, hinders economic development, and causes climate change.

According to foreign experience, several developed countries have successful programs to improve atmospheric air. For example, in Germany, within the framework of the “Clean Air Program”, special “red zones” for cars have been introduced in large cities, where only electric cars or harmless vehicles can move. In the United States, measures are being taken to reduce industrial emissions and increase green zones based on the Clean Air Act.

In the new election program of the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, one of the important initiatives is the proposal to adopt the National Program “Clean Air 2030” to improve atmospheric air in all regions. This program aims to improve the environment, maintain public health, and create a healthy environment for future generations.

Implementing the national program “Clean Air 2030” in Uzbekistan will help control air quality in all regions and identify air pollution factors. Based on this information, specific measures will be developed to eliminate the identified problems.
