On April 5-9 this year, Uzbekistan will host another major international event. The 150th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union will be held in our country for the first time, which will undoubtedly become an important historical event in the socio-political life of our nation.

It should be noted that the Inter-Parliamentary Union is a prestigious organization that has become a global platform for dialogue among the world’s legislative bodies. One of its main objectives is to unite parliaments to encourage cooperation and strengthen international peace and collaboration.

Uzbekistan’s membership in the Inter-Parliamentary Union was restored in 2017, at a time when the country had entered a new stage of development and boldly embarked on consistent reforms. In the short period since then, significant experience has been accumulated, particularly in the areas of national parliamentarism and sustainable development. Major international organizations and foreign states are specially recognizing the achievements of our country in various spheres.

From this perspective, it is no coincidence that the 150th jubilee Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union is being held in our country. In recent years, under the leadership of our President, significant positive results have been achieved within the framework of the newly revised Constitution and the Uzbekistan 2030 Strategy in areas such as protecting human rights, ensuring the rule of law, promoting gender equality, advancing science and technology, supporting youth, and strengthening cooperation among nations. This prestigious forum will provide an opportunity for Uzbekistan to share and exchange its positive experiences with countries around the world.

Within the framework of the Assembly, titled “Parliamentary Action for Social Development and Justice”, all bodies of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, including the Standing Committee, the Forum of Young Parliamentarians, the Committee on the Human Rights of Parliamentarians, as well as discussions on issues such as poverty eradication, social equality, inter-parliamentary cooperation, and peace processes, will take place, with 11 international resolutions expected to be adopted.

In addition, seminars will be held on climate change, parliamentary diplomacy, and social norms affecting women’s health, and nominees will be identified for the 2025 edition of both the Inter-Parliamentary Union Prize and the Cremer-Passy Prize. At the conclusion of the Assembly, the resolutions of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Tashkent Declaration are scheduled to be adopted.

In short, the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly, the most prestigious organization of the world’s parliaments, demonstrates Uzbekistan’s growing international standing. This Assembly provides another opportunity to present to foreign parliamentarians and the international community the achievements our country has made in areas such as lawmaking and parliamentary oversight.
