Involvement of private business in road construction, gas, and electricity supply is the call of the times
It is well known from world practice that the active involvement of private businesses in road construction, gas, and electricity supply has a significant effect.
From this point of view, the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan’s proposal to involve private businesses in road construction, gas, and electricity supply in this year’s elections can be called a far-sighted strategic initiative.
It is known that the production of electric energy in Uzbekistan is entirely under state control. Straightforward strategic tasks are being determined to transfer it to the private sector gradually. That is, by 2025, 47 percent, and by 2030, 52 percent of electricity production is planned to be achieved by the private sector. Therefore, most of the new power plants that will be built in the future will be financed by investors and built by the private sector.
This creates an effective market and competitive environment for the infrastructure of the industry and the country’s economy and makes it convenient for the population. As a result of competition, there will be an opportunity to provide cheap electricity for the population.
It will also be possible to observe the emergence of competition in the field by attracting private businesses to the natural gas supply. In this regard, special attention is being paid to the abolition of the monopoly on the supply of natural and liquefied gas to consumers in the country and the involvement of private businesses in managing low-pressure gas distribution networks. Based on the developed procedure, in 2024-2025, pilot areas are actively being identified for transfer to the private sector.
In this regard, the essence of the party’s initiative is to negotiate with potential companies and accelerate the transfer of regional gas distribution networks to the private sector under specific conditions. In addition, it is a priority to take concrete measures to attract investors to the distribution and sale of electricity.
Therefore, the initiative to attract private businesses in road construction, gas, and electricity supply in the pre-election program of UzLiDeP is of practical importance. It will improve the population’s lifestyle and the country’s well-being by ensuring high quality of service, preventing losses, and ensuring stability.
